Open letter to the community

Dear Colleagues,

Ben here from the Royal Academy of Engineering in the UK – I work alongside Shane and others in our international team.  In parallel with our engagement with you on the global engineering response to Covid-19, we have an additional and more pressing request for evidence on how engineering can help reduce nosocomial (hospital acquired) infection.

In response to an urgent call from UK government, we are currently pulling together evidence on this topic, in its broadest sense from design considerations to materials or UV light solutions. We would really appreciate insights and examples from the global community on some of the engineering solutions that may be viable in either the near or medium term, or that could be considered to improve hospital resilience in the future. This could include details of innovations, best practices, data models, lessons learnt etc, or suggestions of organisations and contact points who would be worth us approaching.

If you’re able to help, it would be most appreciated if you could please send any responses to me by Wednesday this week.

Many thanks in advance and best wishes,
